President's Letter
My Dear Shady Ladies -
Welcome to our 65th year of Shady Oaks! This year's theme is a quote from Audrey Hepburn and it truly sums up a Gardener's heart, "To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow." We plant the seeds and trees for tomorrow's generations.
Shady Oaks has a long history of generosity within our community of River Ridge. The many annual projects of Shady Oaks touch the daily lives of our neighbors and community: Arbor Day, Civic Beautification, City Park Volunteers, Community Volunteers, Garden Therapy, Little Shadows at Hazel Park - Hilda Knoff School, Love the Boot, NOMA Urns, Utility Box Painting and Sunshine Committees just to name a few. We should all be proud of our work we do together.
Our new project this year will be "Trimming the Trails." Shady Oaks Garden Club Members will assess the Community Crepe Myrtle and Azalea Trails in the River Ridge area. Members will devise a plan to revitalize, limb up, protect and nourish the trees and plants of the trails. After preparing a plan, members will contact and work with Jefferson Parish and the River Ridge Community Association to complete the project through scheduled workdays. Our newest project will revitalize both trails.
It is with great pride that I serve as your president this coming year. I pray that with God's guidance and your help, love and support, we will be able to continue the long-standing traditions of Shady Oaks.
Blessings,
Kathy Maffei
